There is plenty happening behind the hoarding at Amara Cremorne, with the project reaching a significant milestone and works now moving below ground. Here is a look at what our construction team has been busy with onsite, and what you can expect to see over the coming months.
A key milestone reached
All piling and capping beam works have now been completed. This is a key project milestone, as these works form the structural perimeter of the basement and allow the next major phase of construction, bulk excavation, to commence.
Digging down
Bulk excavation of the basement is now well underway, progressing hand in hand with shotcreting of the basement shoring walls. Shotcrete is a sprayed concrete that lines and strengthens the excavated walls as we dig deeper.
The excavation and shotcrete works are being undertaken progressively in three excavation “drops”, with each drop taking the site a level deeper until we reach the final basement excavation level. The first drop is targeted for completion by 2 September 2026, after which works will commence on the second.
Supporting the site
To provide temporary support to the basement shoring walls while excavation continues, the first row of temporary ground anchors has been installed. These anchors will remain in place until the permanent structure is sufficiently advanced. The Basement Slab on Ground, the Lower Ground suspended slab and the Ground Floor suspended slab have all been designed to permanently brace the shoring walls once complete. The Ground Floor slab is currently anticipated to be poured in early 2027, a moment when the project will really begin to rise from the ground.
A new arrival on the skyline
Preparation of the first tower crane base is currently underway ahead of the crane installation. The project’s first tower crane has recently arrived in Australia and will be mobilised to site once the required enabling works are complete. Keep an eye out, it will soon become a familiar feature on the Cremorne skyline.
Keeping things moving
Bulk excavation and the removal of excavated material using truck-and-dog combinations continue to be the primary material handling and site logistics activities onsite. Our team is working closely with all contractors to keep trucks moving safely and efficiently, and to minimise disruption to the surrounding neighbourhood.
What’s next
Over the coming months you will see excavation continue through the second and third drops, the tower crane take its place onsite, and preparations begin for the basement structure. We look forward to sharing the next chapter from behind the hoarding.
